First-of-its-Kind Mobile Addiction Medicine Clinic Now Available inYork Region and South Simcoe

January 27, 2025

Aurora, ON — (January 27, 2025) — In a pivotal move for addiction care, Addiction Services Central Ontario (ASCO) celebrates the launch of its Mobile Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (M-RAAM) clinic, designed to provide barrier-free, street-side treatment and supports for individuals affected by addictions. ASCO marked the launch of this initiative with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Funded by Ontario Health, this mobile service serving York Region and South Simcoe, brings addictions medicine, counselling, case management, and harm reduction support directly to youth and adults who need it most, helping to eliminate barriers to care.

“York Region and South Simcoe residents now have more timely access to the addiction services they need, no matter where they live,” said Penny Marrett, Executive Director of ASCO. “The introduction of the Mobile RAAM clinic makes addiction services more accessible and equitable for underserved communities.”

The mobile unit is staffed by a team of professionals, including a Nurse Practitioner, Registered Practical Nurse, Case Manager, Addiction Counsellor, and Peer Support. Clients can speak directly with an addiction professional about their recovery journey, receive advice on treatment options, and learn about services that are available to them.

“As a trusted provider of addiction services for over 40 years, ASCO is committed to breaking down barriers to care,” said Marrett. “We are grateful to Ontario Health for their support in making this initiative a reality.

The launch of this mobile clinic will allow us to expand our reach, bringing vital support directly to those who may not have had access otherwise, ensuring that no one is left behind in their path to recovery.”
